DR. IÑIGO SÁNCHEZ-FUARROS (Principal Investigator)

Iñigo Sánchez-Fuarros received his PhD in anthropology from the University of Barcelona (Spain). He is currently a Ramón y Cajal senior postdoctoral research fellow at the Institute of Heritage Sciences (Spanish National Research Council) and affiliated researcher at the Institute for Ethnomusicology (INET-MD) at NOVA University in Lisbon (Portugal). His research interests focus on the study of music as a social and cultural phenomenon in three interdisciplinary domains: the relationship between music, identity and migration; the field of sound studies, and the study of music in urban settings.

PROF. SALWA EL-SHAWAN CASTELO-BRANCO (Co-Principal Investigator)

Salwa El-Shawan Castelo-Branco is Professor of Ethnomusicology, Director of the Instituto de Etnomusicologia – Centro de Estudos em Música e Dança, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal, and  President of the International Council for Traditional Music since 2013. She received her doctorate from Columbia University, taught at New York University (1979-1982), was visiting professor at Columbia University, Princeton University; Tinker Professor at Chicago University and Overseas Visiting Scholar at St. John’s College, Cambridge University and Gulbenkian Visting Professor at the University of California, Berkeley. Carried out field research in Portugal, Egypt and Oman resulting in publications on: cultural politics, musical nationalism, identity, music media, modernity, heritagization, and music and conflict.
